From a small group in Paris to our own conference in Chennai, the Vincentian story is rooted in a simple conviction: compassion becomes meaningful when it becomes action.
On 23 April, Blessed Frédéric Ozanam and six companions founded the Conference of Charity to bring assistance to people in need.
Guided by Sister Rosalie Rendu and the Daughters of Charity, the group adopted St Vincent de Paul as its patron.
Our conference began at Holy Family Shrine on 30 April with seven members, initiated by Rev. Fr. Bernard Lawrence, our first spiritual adviser.
Our members continue the local work of service, friendship and fellowship as part of the global Vincentian family.
The founding group in Paris included Frédéric Ozanam, Emmanuel Joseph Bailly, François Lallier, Auguste Le Taillandier, Paul Lamache, Félix Clavé and Jules Devaux. Their work centred on personal visits and direct assistance to people in need. As the Society grew, smaller local groups, known as conferences, helped carry this spirit of service into more communities.
Holy Family Conference’s first president was Brother G. Edwin, its first secretary was Brother Lazar, and its first treasurer was Brother P. L. Raju. Rev. Fr. C. Joseph followed Rev. Fr. Bernard Lawrence as spiritual adviser.

A community of members and auxiliary members, each contributing their time and talents to our shared mission.
